Visiting the Museum: The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is located in the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park, located off Woodmere Boulevard. In 2000, the park expanded and opened a new entrance off Vaughn Road, about one mile south of the Eastern Boulevard. From Interstate 85, take exit six. If you are traveling south (toward Montgomery), exit left onto the Eastern Boulevard. If traveling north (toward Atlanta), exit right onto the Eastern Boulevard in the lane marked Carmichael Road/Woodmere Boulevard. Turn left onto Woodmere Boulevard. Turn right into the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park. The Museum is the building with the dome.

Museum Hours
The Museum is open
Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum galleries are closed on Mondays.
Admission is FREE.

Art Guild names 2007 prize winners

George Taylor took best of show at the 37th Montgomery Art Guild Museum Exhibition with his work “Crossroads Gold” 2005, oil on canvas, which earned him the $1,500 prize provided by Aronov Realty Management Inc. Taylor was one of 95 artists from the Montgomery area and surrounding areas who submitted 337 works this year, and juror Clifton Pearson of the University of Montevallo selected 74 works for the show. His choices include paintings, mixed media, photography, ceramics and more, all of which will be on view at the museum (Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts) through May 6th 2007.
Here are the other winners from this year’s exhibition:
J. Sidney Kelly’s “Bath”, 2006, oil on canvas, earned the Emily B. Gassenheimer Memorial Purchase Award, which is $2,500 and provided by the late Montgomery artist’s husband, Irvin Gassenheimer. Phil Scarsbrook, “Miss Ollie, Psalms and Day Lillies,” 2006, Giclee print, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts Foy Gilmore Goodwyn Memorial Fund’s merit award for $1,000; Charles D. Carrington, “The Feathered Nymph,” 2006, mixed media, Montgomery Art Gallery Association merit award, $700; Barrett Bailey, “Trinity” 2006, graphite on paper, Harmon Dennis Bradshaw Inc. merit award, $500; Linda Walden, “Tempus Fugit,” 2005, resin, steel, limestone, Mr. and Mrs. Shapard D. Ashley merit award, $300; Cecily Hulett, “The Night Speaks,” 2005, mixed media, Ms. Mary Cahn merit award, $300; and Andrew Hairstans, “Delay,” 2004, oil on canvas, Hamilton Service & Supply merit award, $300. Entec Stations Inc. also provided five honorable mentions, each of which came with a $100 certificate for gasoline: Christopher Greenman, “Large Stamped Vase”, 2006, anagama-fired stoneware; Al Page, “Chained,” 2006, digital photography; Barbara Davis, “Autumn Shadows,” 2006, oil on canvas; William DePaola, “Duet,” 2006, acrylic on paper; and Christopher Bryce Lugenbeal, “Heaven’s Gate,” 2006 , color photography.
